Mizon Returning Starfish Cream

I bought the Mizon Returning Starfish Cream based on the Muse’s review of it. She asked a very intriguing question: Where is this starfish returning from? I wanted to know too, so into my cart it went.

It contains 70% starfish extract and it’s supposed to be good for wrinkles, whitening, firming, moisture, and recovery.

One of the selling points is the “shape memory formula” which means you can put a dent in the cream and it’ll return to a flat surface in time (aha, so that’s where the “returning” comes from!).  The “pudding texture” ties in with their marketing on how starfish regenerate themselves; the starfish extract in this cream helps regenerate skin and maximizes the skin firming effect.

It certainly felt like I was spreading bodily fluids on my face. It had the consistency of  gunk scraped from someone’s nether regions. It does melt when you rub it into your skin, and the scent is pleasantly light, floral and beachy.

Another thing is my tin is really loose. If I picked it up by the top, the bottom part falls from the lid… but then right after I wrote that, I realized this is easily solved by squeezing in the lid a bit so it’s tighter. Rubber duck debugging right here.

It does moisturize, but any cream that is incapable of doing that just fails at being a cream. The amount you get for the price is relatively little IMHO. My skin also feels more oily to the touch some time after I use it.

Below are the ingredients from their marketing and from my box. It does have silicones before half of those oils, which doesn’t bother my skin, but if you’re avoiding silicones, this isn’t for you.

I like to think I’m not easily swayed by gimmicks, but the starfish got me. I just wanted to be able to say I spread starfish goo on my face in the name of beauty.

P.S. I told my cousin about this cream and then she showed me this video about starfish wasting disease:

She’s a biology major who likes to ruin my fun with science. Needless to say, my nose didn’t start crawling away from my face the morning after. But it’s in the back of my mind every time I use this cream.

I purchased this from f21plus on eBay. Here’s a link on RoseRoseShop with more of their marketing pictures and info.
