Peripera Peri’s Ink Lip Stain and Remover

Lip stains have a bit of a learning curve for me — you get better coverage if you use a fingertip instead of the applicator, but I’m too lazy to scrub the stain out after, so I tend to just use the wand and smack my lips together. This results in uneven coverage for me, but I like to use a stain under lipstick, since after I eat, the lip stain often remains on my inner lip, while lipstick fades except for the outer edges. So they work well together. The only one I use at the moment is Tony Moly’s Delight Tony Tint, so I wanted to add more to my stash.

Anyway, I wandered into a Club Clio where they sell Peripera (페리페라). The saleslady told me that they were having a special (as they often do); buy Peri’s Ink and get a free mirror. And when I finally picked one, she said if I got a lil something extra, I can get a mini Peri’s Tint too, which was what I wanted to originally buy.

So, I walked away with Peripera Peri’s Ink, the Remover, a lil mirror and mini Peri’s Tint (I’ll review that if I remember).

Nobuchika Eri 2015

I don’t really follow J-Pop much these days, but one of my favorite singers, Nobuchika Eri (信近エリ) is making a comeback!

Many know her as the singer of Lights from the PSP game Lumines. I love love love her first album, it was flawless. I’m not fond of ballads, but her music didn’t bore me at all. I bought her second (indie) album too and while it was quite different, her voice was still great and soothing. Occasionally, I google her to see if there’s any news, and early last year I stumbled across a live perf (that was taken down by a copyright claim, boo) that gave me hope. While she stopped updating her blog, she still had an Instagram I could follow.

But this month, a bunch of updates hit at once. She signed under Rhythm Zone (back under the same label as Osawa Shinichi, who produced her first album *fingers crossed*), revamped her site and is on a new tv show called Suiyou Kayousai (水曜歌謡祭, Music Festival on Wed). They sing hit songs from the past; here’s a compilation from her shiny, brand-new Youtube channel!

Also, here’s a clip from the show I found on Youtube (that’ll probably get taken down, so I’m sticking it at the end of the post).

AHAs and St. Ives Exfoliating Pads

After discovering /r/SkincareAddiction, I’ve been on a skincare kick. I’ve been fortunate to have decent skin since my early twenties (my teenage years are another story). However, stress from my (old) job and late nights have been manifesting on my face. I’ve managed to remove the stress and I feel like my skin has improved.

However, I do get Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) which leaves dark marks where pimples used to be. It’s not extreme and there are only a few marks, some lighter than others. But, my mum’s been annoying about pointing out my “pimples,” so I decided to look at how to make them fade faster.

Extra motivation is in the summer, I often get PIH from mosquito bites that takes months to go away. It’s especially noticeable on my legs where the bite gets more irritated from wearing jeans — to hide my skin from mosquitoes in the first place dammit!

One thing that helps is AHAs, which helps exfoliate the skin and fade hyperpigmentation. It does so through chemical exfoliation with lactic acid, rather than through physical exfoliation, like cleansers with little scrubby beads in it.

An often-recommended product that has AHAs in it is St. Ives Exfoliating Pads. I bought mine off of Amazon because I couldn’t find it in stores, which usually has the popular but bad-for-your-skin St. Ives Apricot Scrub instead.

I’ve been using it a few times a week in the last few months (and almost daily the first month I got it), and I see that the spots I’ve had for months have faded. I also don’t get dry flakes on my nose like I used to with my cleansers that have sulfates in it.

What I don’t like about it is the smell. The label has pictures of oranges and blueberries on it, but it just smells awfully synthetic to me. I’ve gotten accustomed to it, but in the beginning, I had to hold my breath or insta-cringe.

Some things to note are that AHAs work better at lower pH levels, so it’s best to wait about 30 minutes before applying anything else on your face. This gives the product time to work on your face before its pH level balances out on your skin. AHAs also increase photosensitivity, so you should avoid sun exposure or wear sunscreen. I usually swipe a pad when I expect to be indoors or in the late afternoon.

It’s pretty cheap, and I stretch it out even further by cutting the pads in half. But I really want to try something stronger like Paula’s Choice 8% AHA Gel to speed up results.

Bye Bye Wisdom Toofs

I just got a wisdom tooth and an impacted tooth removed! Preemptive measure, since I had one erupt last year that I had to take out. At that time, I was oblivious and thought my jawbone decided to peek through my gums all swollen for a couple of weeks — not sure why I wasn’t more alarmed about that idea — before I decided to call it in.

The impacted one was growing sideways, silly little guy. Now half my face is swollen, and I have a course beginning tomorrow. It’ll be a good conversation starter I suppose.

I’m the kind of person that likes to watch videos of cyst removals and cataract surgeries on YouTube, but I understand not everyone’s like that so click here to see the picture if you’re not squeamish. And click here to see the one from last year plus two baby teeth fragments. I previously sent that pic to my boss and coworker, and just sent the new one to my old boss as well haha. Apparently I have no gross filter that makes me think, “hmmm, TMI?”

Dear Esther

I played Dear Esther, which was in one of the Humble Bundles I bought last year. Well, less playing and more endless walking, with the occasional swimming to keep myself from drowning in the ocean and caves.

The environment was just wow. Nonstop scenery porn right here. I’m not a big sucker for graphics, but the island setting was just breathtakingly beautiful. The lighting, the textures, the water effects, those were the elements that made this “game”.

Little details like the spray of water from crashing waves to specks of burnt wick in candles, even the lines in a cracked eggshell really stood out.

The candles even have specks of burnt wick in them.

If you’re impatient and need some action in your games, this probably isn’t for you. For me, even if there was no story whatsoever, I would still be willing to traverse the island, although I did find myself wishing at times for a running feature to speed up the long walks on the beach.
